Let's be perfectly clear about this...

Lone Elm Taproom is a place that Jon and I have spent many happy hours at, and a place we've sent many people to. For the longest time it had THE best happy hour in town- 1/2 off all beers and all the beers are local. Or mostly local. The furthest I think I've seen is maybe from as far away as Schlafly or Lucky Bucket, but mostly it's Boulevard, Torn Label, Martin City, KC Bier, Free State... you know, all the staples. And speaking of staples, they had pretty good food specials each day too.

Then, a couple weeks ago, Jon and I plan a special pilgrimage to this little gem of a bar, tucked inside the Whole Foods on 119th in Olathe. We decided to also grab a bite to eat from the prepared, and will prepare for you, food area, conveniently located right next to the bar, then we'll do a little grocery shopping when we're done. We walked into the bar, checked the specials board and stood there like we just witnessed an accident. What the hell happened to the specials!?! $1 off all beers? and the food special? Chicken Wings. That's it, the only special on any day. Not especially enticing when you just switched to a veganish diet. (Although I'm sure the chicken wings here are the bomb, all the food we've ever eaten here has been.)

Ok, the point I'm trying to make, and I want this to be PERFECTLY clear- we have NOT been sending you guys to this place for $1 off. I can appreciate any special on a good local beer, so I'm not saying we aren't grateful to save a buck. 100 pennies saved is 100 pennies earned, blah, blah, blah. But 1/2 off is a whole 'nother ball game and that is what we thought we were sending people to- typically $3 off, sometimes more. Now that's something to shout from the rooftops, which is what we've been doing. But somewhere in our hiatus, they changed things on us and well... sorry.

Apparently we weren't the only ones who stood dumbfounded at that sign though. I went by there yesterday to check on this situation in preparation for writing this post to you today. Still no daily food specials, but they upped the happy hour to $2 off all beers.


Maybe they heard us complaining and wanted to make us happy. Or, maybe they noticed the difference between 40 people at your bar and 2 people who made a pilgrimage so they might as well take what they can get sitting at your bar. Either way, your welcome. Sorry we couldn't do more.


PS- Bathrooms here are great. Clean and green. Gotta love Whole Foods.

Through the Lens of a Midlife Crisis

When I first started this blog, I'll admit I had this thought that Jon and I were going to be some sort of famous restaurant bloggers. At the time we had so many conversations with people about the places we went and the food and drinks we liked. We had been to almost all the breweries in town and knew about all the ones coming. The time has come

For a long time, I have been trying to convince Jon that we should write a blog. Mostly the conversation has always ended up with no. Why? There are so many blogs out there. Who in the world would care what we have to say. Well. Tonight I have finally been pushed to Yes. We're doing this. I don't care if no one ends up reading this- we are doing this.
