When the mouse is away, the cats will play- part 2/2
Our week resumes with...
Wednesday - We ate at home.
- Just when you were thinking, "man, I knew these two were fat, but..." We're not that crazy. We don't eat out EVERY night.
Thursday - 3B for Metro Lutheran Ministry at Boulevard Brewing Co.
- Look, if you live here, you know how awesome Boulevard is. Even if you don't live here- if you've had Tank 7 and The Calling (and/or many of the others), you know how awesome Boulevard is. We went down early and went to the Beer Hall. Wow. What a GREAT spot. Thanks to D.J. and Lori for the great company too!
- The advertising for this event went something like, "Basketball, BBQ and Beer, our second favorite trinity." How can you not love an event with that advertising!
- This is a really fun event that raises funds and awareness for MLM's emergency food pantries in KCMO, KCK and North KC. MLM is doing great things in Kansas City and we are honored to be a part of this great organization.
Friday - to-go food from Fuzzy's Taco Shop
- This was truly disappointing. Our order was wrong and not cooked properly.
- My initial reaction was to write this up as a no-go, but instead, I share with you a story...
- So, part of Jon's old job was to answer feedback from guests. The company policy was to contact people back within 24 hours. Jon's policy was closer to 24 minutes. We would be sitting at home and he would get a guest feedback notice at like, 11:30 at night, and I would have to stop him from calling the person. (Restaurant guys don't understand that calling someone at midnight isn't ok.) Jon and I send feedback notices to restaurants more than the average person does, I guarantee it. We are overjoyed to send compliments and we very tactfully (usually) send criticism as well. I wrote to Fuzzy's. We used to love Fuzzy's. I don't know what happened. I am happy to report that they responded- not within 24 hours, but they did respond. Because of their kind response, and willingness to make it right, we are going to give Fuzzy's another chance. I'll keep you posted...
Saturday - J. Alexander's
- Save the best for last.
- It wouldn't be a week full of dates, without a stop at, dare I say...? Our favorite restaurant. (Maybe second only to Benny's Restaurant in Denver.)
- If you want a good meal, just go here. They are doing everything right. Good food? Yes. Good service? Yes. Perfect food timing? Yes. Clean bathroom? Yes. Good price point? Yes. More expensive than what you might pay somewhere else, but definitely cheaper than other places. And totally worth every penny. Did I mention? They are getting everything right here!
- The Calamari is not to be missed. Most other places have a bunch of tentacles in a plate of Calamari. I ALWAYS have to eat the tentacles because my dainty husband can't handle them. While I don't mind the tentacles, I'm tired of always being confined to eating them just so they don't go to waste. That is not a problem here. No tentacles. Just perfectly, lightly-breaded, circles of deliciousness.
- The Alex Salad is maybe the best house salad of any restaurant. Steaks are always on point, but this time we decided to branch out. Cilantro Shrimp and Cajun Swordfish. And, of course, they nailed them both.
- If you like martinis, get one here. They bring you more than enough and the extra comes in a little chilled sidecar. So fun!
So, that's our cat-playing, hopping-around-town, love-reconnecting, 5-lb-gaining week of fun. Hope you find at least one place you can't wait to go to!
