Speaking of cats...

Before we get started here, I just want to say thank you. I am truly overwhelmed by the thought that even one person would take the time to read these words and join me in this fun little escapade here, let alone so many!?! Thank you so much to everyone who in the last several months has asked, "when is your next blog?" "when will we hear from you again?" It's sometimes hard to find time to write, but I do very much enjoy sharing my, hopefully helpful and somewhat snarky, insights, so... let's continue, shall we?

Now, back to cats. Or, one cat really- HopCat!

HopCat has become a new little obsession. Well, beer has become my new obsession and HopCat is the method by which I indulge in this obsession. (One of the methods anyway...) Jon introduced me to HopCat about a year-ish ago, only a week or so after they opened. He had been to the Indianapolis location and wanted to check out the one here. It pretty much rules. Good environment- make sure you go upstairs to the patio, downstairs to the bathroom and check out everything in between. The beer menu is equal amounts of awesome and painful- they have so many beers, but they also show you what's "on deck" so you can sit there and look at your favorite beer listed in that section, knowing that there is a keg in the back. Just sitting there. Untapped. Taunting you. So if something like, say, Torn Label's Leap of Faith IPA was a recent highlight of your beer-drinking experiences, and you can't find it anywhere else in town, well, we have a keg right here! You just can't have any of it yet. Then, after checking the status of this keg on the Untappd App....ummm... not quite daily, but, yeah, maybe daily, it finally gets tapped, hooray! Just in time for you to go out of town! Boo....

But I digress.

I have had the chance to try many a good beer here. Like most of my favorite spots right now, they let you make your own flight, which is pretty much my favorite thing to do. And if I'm being totally honest- the whole "on deck" thing? Pure genius. Keeps you coming back to try to find your next favorite brew.

Cut to Mother's Day.
Like most husbands do, with Mother's Day just around the corner, Jon thinks, and plans, and plots for just the right way to tell the mother of his son just how special she is. He takes his time to very gently present me with the gift he has chosen for this most special of days. Chocolates? Jewelry? Spa Day? Oh, no, not for this momma! My man knows his lady. We're headed down to HopCat for free Crack Fries! Oh, did I not mention their Crack Fries yet!?! I love french fries. And hate them. So many people are taking this simple, delicious snack and just not doing it justice. You won't find that here, they are dressing it up in a sassy little black dress and they are yum, yum, yum. Voted one of the "Top 10 French Fries in America - Food Network Magazine," but they are in my top 5 I think.

The rest of the menu is pretty stellar also, pizza and burgers are delicious and they have lots of vegetarian items that are equally delicious.

And, as if this place wasn't cool enough... compostable to-go containers!?! And this sign in the bathroom:

They are taking the extra step(s) to reduce waste and take care of the environment we all share. Read more here.

So, beer- check. Awesome fries- check. Earth friendly waste removal- check. What are you waiting for? If you haven't been down there yet, make it your next stop. If you have? Go back and try something on those menus you haven't had yet- you can trust them, it's all good.

  1. Funny lady! I would like to come drink beer with you at HopCat. Let's make that happen please, since I can't seem to keep up with our gaming... perhaps drinking together is the answer!!

    1. I agree! Your comment doesn't say your name, but I have my suspicions. :) Hope the move went well.
